Aztec Chicken with Sweet Potato-Corn Mash Inspired by Tlazolteotl

Moon Goddess Tlazolteotl is the pardoner of sins to the Aztecs. She is known as the Eater of Filth and also known for being very powerful, which is why the Aztecs revealed their sins to. In order to become pure of their sins, the Aztecs made numerous sacrifices to in Tlazolteotl’s honor. She has a strong message to prove that the very elements that cause us harm or overwhelm us can also bring healing and strength. 

Goddess Tlazolteotl was not just known for having power to help purify one of their sins but also for gaining advice on procreation. She was called on during births to cleanse babies’ of the sins of their parents and to ensure the child would have good health and a long life. 

The following recipe is warm and nurturing and relates back to the Aztec style, making it a perfect recipe to make and call on Mood Goddess Tlazolteotl. 

 

Aztec Chicken with Sweet Potato-Corn Mash 

Ingredients:

  • 1 Tbsp Canola Oil
  • 6 Tbsps Honey
  • 1 Tbsp Ancho Chile Powder
  • 1/2 Tbsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 Tsps Tapatio
  • 6 Bone-in Chicken Breast Halves
  • 5 Ears of Corn
  • 1 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
  • Dash of Salt and Ground Pepper
  • 2 Sweet Potatoes
  • 1/4 Cup Heavy Whipping Cream

 

Directions:

  1. Combine canola oil, honey, ancho chile powder, garlic, and Tapatio in a large bowl and mix together until combined. Place chicken breasts in a bag or container and pour the marinade over the chicken. Place in refrigerator for 3 hours or overnight.
  2. Preheat the oven to 450 degrees and place sweet potatoes on a baking sheet. Put the corn in a baking pan and brush with canola oil. Season the corn with salt and pepper and cover the entire pan with aluminum foil.
  3. Put the sweet potatoes and corn in the oven for about 25 minutes. Bake the sweet potatoes until they are tender for about an additional 45 minutes after the corn has been removed from the oven.
  4. Cut kernels from the ears of corn when they are cool and move to a blender or food processor. Add heavy whipping cream and puree. Move to a medium bowl and stir in the rest of the corn before seasoning with salt and pepper. 
  5. Cook the chicken on the stovetop or on the grill. Cut the chicken breasts into 3 pieces and place on top of the mash.
  6. Enjoy!
