Sekhmet is a lion-headed goddess from ancient Egypt who represents both fierce power and protection. She is the daughter of Ra, the sun god, and was sent to punish humans for their disobedience. Her anger was said to burn like the desert sun. Known as the “Powerful One,” she was a goddess of war and destruction, feared for her rage in battle.

Sekhmet was also a healer and was closely linked to medicine and protection. Priests and doctors called on her to help fight disease and bring healing. Because of this, people both feared and respected her, she could destroy with her anger, but also save with her kindness.

Sekhmet reminds people of the fine line between anger and compassion. She is often shown wearing red, with a sun disk and a cobra on her lioness head. As a goddess of justice, she watches over the world and is ready to protect the balance of Ma’at, the ancient order of truth and harmony.
