Description
THIS LISTING IS FOR A REPRODUCTION ON CANVAS OF MY ORIGINAL ASIBIKAASHI OIL PAINTING
Asibikaashi, the Spider Woman, is an important spirit in Ojibwe tradition. She protects the people, especially children. Long ago, when the Anishinaabe people spread out across the land, it became hard for her to watch over everyone. So, mothers and grandmothers began weaving dreamcatchers, small, round webs hung above sleeping children. These webs caught bad dreams and let good ones pass through, helping Asibikaashi continue to protect her people.
Her web is more than just a shield from bad dreams, it’s a symbol of how people are connected. Each thread stands for family, stories, and the bonds between us and the world. Asibikaashi is also linked to the rising sun, because she rebuilds her web every morning, reminding us of the importance of starting fresh and taking care of what matters.
Though she is quiet and gentle, Asibikaashi teaches deep lessons. She shows the power of patience, protection, and love. Her spirit can still be seen in spider webs glistening in the morning light, fragile-looking, but strong. Through her, the Ojibwe continue to pass down dreams, traditions, and care from one generation to the next.
