PERSEPHONE PENDANT NECKLACE
Goddess Persephone
Greek Goddess Persephone was the daughter of the God Zeus, and Demeter, Goddess of the harvest. Persephone’s name translates to “destroying face” and research shows her to be more ancient than Demeter. She is an ancient goddess of death, and some say, she is the original ruler of the Underworld.
Persephone, was first known as Kora, until her disappearance into the underworld when Hades, the god of the Underworld, asked his brother – her father- Zeus , for her hand in marriage, and Zeus had accepted without Demeter’s knowledge; Kora being her name for childhood and innocence.
Kora/Persephone, one day disappeared as she was picking flowers in the field. Demeter was beside herself in despair over the loss of her daughter.
The Earth could endure Demeter’s sadness no more, so Zeus, and Hecate stepped in to intervene. They helped Hades come to an agreement with Demeter, and Persephone was allowed to return home, as
long as Persephone had not eaten anything while in the Underworld. This was a trick, however, as the god of the Underworld had already offered Persephone a
pomegranate, which was believed to be food of the dead. She ate six of its seeds, thus forever tying her to the Underworld and Hades. For each seed, she would have to return and remain in the Underworld for an entire month, thus Autumn and Winter were born. Each time Persephone would return to her mother, Spring and Summer, and all the color and possibility of life would soon follow. With her mother Demeter, they are both intrinsically connected to the seasons, equinoxes, and solstices. everlasting faith and undying love.
