THIS LISTING IS FOR A REPRODUCTION ON CANVAS OF MY ORIGINAL ELPIS PAINTING
Sacred Mother and Spirit, Elpis.
Elpis is the personification and Spirit of “when all hope seems lost.”
Elpis, along with every vile and evil spirit imagined were trapped in a jar (or box) by the God Zeus. Zeus gave this vessel to the first woman on Earth, Pandora, with a warning to never to open the vessel (God, the apple, and Eve anyone?). When Pandora’s curiosity got the best of her, she opened the vessel and all the pestilence, and evil spirits escaped wrecking absolute disaster and havoc on Earth. Elpis had a chance to escape, but she chose to remain in the jar/box to comfort mankind, to offer hope in the midst of chaos when all seemed lost. We all need a bit of Elpis energy in our lives!
